I think what this entire thing was about, was an expiation of sin. I had a story I needed to tell, and now that I have told it, it is time to move on. We must all find a way forward here, and though I’m done carrying the sword for Canada, there will always be those that rise up to reach for it. Since the dawn of time there have always been those that are called to stand watch over the others, and there probably always will be.
I think Douglas Adams was right, and humanity is mostly harmless. We’re kind of funny really, beautiful dreams and terrifying nightmares. I wonder how long it will take us to figure out, that the dreams are the ones far better acted out in reality, than our nightmares.
No one, I think, should feel too accountable for where we are. This happened so quickly, and so many are dumbfounded by what is happening, it is easier to not look at it and pretend it isn’t happening. We have to look at it though, if only to realize, that this is the wrong way to go. Never trust a politician who gives you an easy answer to a complex question, that moron probably hasn’t thought it through. I think we can all see that now.
Nothing human is alien to me now. I had to find out, I wanted to see humanity and everything it had to offer, and I think I may have managed it. I think I at least know who I am, if perhaps almost nothing else. I have met thousands of people, many of them on the worst day of their lives, and I was always amazed by how many people out there were good. We are not all good, but we are mostly good, one on one if you take the time to get to know someone. Early in my career there were a lot of long transfers, and I spent that time talking to my patients and getting to know them. I almost never failed to form a connection with almost all of them. Humanity’s not half bad if you give it half a chance.
You really have a good country going here Canada. There are a lot of self-less people here, working as hard as they can, to keep this thing going. Someone tried to flip the script on us, but I think enough of us remember the way it was, to flip it back without too much effort I hope. In Canada we are supposed to stand together, that’s why the anthem says “we stand on guard for thee,” not me you notice, but thee. Perhaps that is because the best way to protect one of us, is to protect all of us.
Did you know that, that is the one thing you can do to always make yourself feel better? Doing good for others, is a far greater psychological boost than doing good for oneself. I just need to stop doing it at 2am running on coffee and adrenaline, but there is much out there to do, and I am down but not out. Keep going Canada, keep moving forward, and let this time pass, by holding these people to account at the ballot box. We have all been spending so much time focusing on what we hate about Canada, that I think we are all missing how much there is still to love.
